Pratis Farm the Alternative Barn Wedding Venue

Pratis Farm at night

The Romantic Ceremony Barn

Pratis Barn just outside Cupar in Fife has been a wedding venue for a number of years and last year was nominated for the Vows award, Scotland. I have photographed a number of weddings there since my first visit in 2015.

The wedding venue consists of two converted barns which provide the perfect setting for an alternative wedding. The taller of the two barns is used as the ceremony barn and provides a beautiful setting with it's vaulted ceilings and large wooden barn doors. The texture of the stone walls and the atmospheric soft lighting create a rustic backdrop which takes me back to the magical romance of Ross and Emily's 'Friends' wedding. As a documentary wedding photographer these little details are recorded forever and help cement the character of the day.

Wedding Photographs As a Couple and Group Shots

As you leave the ceremony barn the texture of the stone, the red roofs, the pale green woodwork and the surrounding countryside provide a multitude of places to have photographs taken. There is enough space to get away from the wedding party to grab a few romantic moments together as newly weds.

As you stand and look south you get panoramic views over the Forth Estuary over towards Edinburgh and if the weather is typically Scottish there are plenty places to shelter for photographs in the dry.

The Wedding with Cuddles the Horse

The first wedding I attended at Pratis was incredibly special as they accommodated Mairi's horse, cuddles. She was impeccably groomed and dressed for the occasion and was a superbly well behaved bridesmaid.

Informal Elegance & Artistic Details

The second barn at Pratis looks out over the surrounding countryside and the river. It boosts informal elegance with lovely rustic details and lots of areas for the couple to add their personal touches. I love all the little touches that the owner has created such as the bar in the larger room which is clad with old wine crates and she has used old pallets to create signs and flower decorations. The area also leaves masses of scope for Pinterest inspired DIY additions.

The Reception Area

The two parts of the barn link together. The front section is light and airy and perfect as a breakout space for when the dancing is on. The section to the back is dark and lit with up-lighters to highlight the beams on the ceiling. This large space is used for the meal and the dancing and is a great space to add all your DIY wedding touches. I love kids at weddings and specialise in wedding photography for families, Pratis is a great venue for children. They have plenty space to run around, explore, play and get away from loud music.

Where to Stay?

Montrave House provides B&B accommodation next door. The house was once a stables and has been converted to provide some beautiful characterful accommodation. The large light rooms create a great setting for your bridal preparations photography. Although next door, both venues have long driveways so unfortunately it is not walking distance.
